In a recent conversation reflecting on the journey, Nadiadwala opened up about the bond they share, describing Salman as "like a brother" and crediting that trust for the film's success.

The making of Kick marked Nadiadwala's directorial debut, a transition he had been contemplating for years. Having produced several Salman Khan hits before - including Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Jaan-E-Mann, and Judwaa (1997) - the producer knew the actor's strengths inside out. But stepping into the director's chair, he admits, was a different challenge altogether. "Salman doesn't give you the script and say, 'Do this.' He gives you his trust," Nadiadwala recalled. "That is the most valuable thing. Once he believes in you, he will move mountains to make your vision work."

That faith was tested early on. The film's original plot - a loose adaptation of a Telugu hit - required extensive rewriting to suit Salman's mass appeal. Nadiadwala and his writing team spent months crafting a screenplay that balanced action, romance, and comedy while keeping the star's persona at its core. The result was a story about Devil (Salman), a quirky, thrill-seeking vagabond who becomes a hero almost by accident. The character's carefree charm and impromptu dance moves - especially the now-iconic "Jhumka" step - became instant fan favorites.

Beyond the screen, the shoot itself became a testament to their bond. Nadiadwala revealed that Salman often went beyond the call of duty - arriving early, staying late, and even helping design action sequences. "He would say, 'Sajid, don't worry. I'll handle the stunts. You focus on the story.' That kind of support is rare," the director said. The film's extensive foreign shoots - including Warsaw and other European locations - saw the two spending long hours discussing not just cinema but life, family, and their shared love for fitness.

The trust was mutual. When Nadiadwala needed a high-risk stunt involving Salman jumping off a building, the actor didn't flinch. "He just said, 'Let's do it in one take.' And he did. That is the kind of commitment you only give to a brother," Nadiadwala added. The scene, which became a highlight of the film, was shot without a green screen - a rarity in today's CGI-heavy era.

Released in July 2014, Kick shattered opening-day records and went on to earn over ₹230 crore domestically - a massive figure at the time. Its soundtrack, composed by Himesh Reshammiya, became a chartbuster, with songs like "Jumme Ki Raat" and "Tum Hi Ho" still playing at weddings and parties. The film also marked the debut of Jacqueline Fernandez in a Salman Khan film; her pairing with the star was widely praised.

But for Nadiadwala, the film's true legacy is the friendship it cemented. "We had worked together for 15 years before Kick, but this film made us family," he said. "Salman doesn't change. He is the same person he was 12 years ago - loyal, protective, and brutally honest. If he likes something, he will say it. If he doesn't, he will still say it. That's what I love about him."

What's Next for the Duo?

Given their history, fans have long hoped for a sequel. Nadiadwala remained tight-lipped but did not rule out the possibility. "We talk about it often. But it has to be the right story, at the right time. Neither of us wants to make something just for the sake of it," he said. Salman, meanwhile, is currently busy with his upcoming projects, including Sikandar and a possible Dabangg sequel. But sources close to the actor suggest that a Kick sequel remains on his wish list.

As Kick turns 12, it stands as a reminder of what happens when a superstar and a producer-turned-director share a vision - and a bond that goes beyond cinema.
